About the GMA
The 48 × 40 inch pallet, often called the GMA pallet after the grocery manufacturers who standardised it, is the most common pallet in North America. If you ship to the United States or Canada, using it means your goods fit straight into your customer’s racking and handling equipment.
Our version measures 1220 × 1016 mm and 132 mm high. Seven top boards (160 mm at the edges and 100 mm in between) run across three 38 mm stringers, with three bottom boards at the ends and centre. Each stringer has two notches, about 230 mm long and 38 mm deep, cut with rounded corners so the timber is not weakened by sharp inside corners. The notches give partial 4-way entry: pallet trucks and forklifts enter from the 40 inch ends, and forklifts can also enter through the notches from the 48 inch sides.
Every export GMA pallet is heat treated to ISPM-15 and stamped “IN-083 HT”, as required for wood packaging entering North America. It is rated for around 1,000 kg evenly distributed; heavier versions can be built on request.
